Senior Medical Specialist – Fellow, Consultant, Physician
There are always roles available within the NZ Public Health Service, and in multiple locations – you will have choice of lifestyles ranging from our biggest cities (which are actually small on an international scale) through to more rural, beach, country, and scenic locations.
Private practice may be an option in your future as well.
There are over 50 areas of specialisation and most have vacancies arising during the year.
There are constant larger number of vacancies in;
Emergency Medicine
Psychiatry
Diagnostic & interventional radiology
Anaesthesia
And a constant good number of vacancies in;
Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Intensive Care Medicine
Cardiology
Oncology and Radiation Oncology
Rheumatology
Haematology
Roles pay extremely well compared to other NZ professional income earners and there are usually very good relocation packages available.
You will need to be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a medical practitioner in New Zealand.
As a Senior Medical Specialist – Fellow, Consultant, Physician – “you can apply for registration based on overseas training and qualifications and the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) will assess your case on its merits. To do this they will compare your training, qualifications and experience to those of a New Zealand-trained vocationally registered doctor holding the New Zealand or Australasian Fellowship, Diploma or Certificate in the same area of medicine. The relevant specialist medical colleges complete these assessments and provide advice to Council. Council makes the final decision on all applications” (MCNZ)
Please inquire, as we can give more personal information on the registration pathways, vacancies, places to live and work, pay scales and relocation assistance.
